Jacksonville, FL. — Previously, there were pop-up Johnson & Johnson vaccine sites set up in different parts of Jacksonville every day. Now, many are offering Moderna vaccine doses.

On Tuesday, the Gateway Mall federally-funded COVID-19 vaccine site is going back to first and second Pfizer doses after a pause on Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

This site is scheduled to close May 26th, but the Florida Division of Emergency Management is committed to giving folks the second dose they need.

“We’re gonna continue to give first, second doses. If [the] Johnson & Johnson [vaccine] becomes available again, we’ll make a decision when it is,” said Mark Brady, the spokesperson for FL Division of Emergency Management at the Gateway Community Vaccination Center.

They also want to remind people to keep their options open. So, even if the site closes, you can check out pop-ups.

“They are definitely convenient for people depending on where you live or work,” Brady added.

Betty Atkins-Milton got her first Moderna shot outside her job at the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center.

The mobile site called Wellness on Wheels is a collaboration with Agape Family Health.

“Very convenient!” she said.

Prior to these, there were pop-up J & J vax sites set up in different parts of the city every day.

Those have stopped since the vaccine has been paused.

At first, Atkins-Milton was worried she’d be getting the J & J vaccine.

“I walked up to them [and] I asked them, would I be getting that? And they said no, and that kinda gave me a relief,” she recounted.

So, she’s ok with having to get her second dose in four weeks.

“It don’t (sic) bother me, if it’s gonna help me, then I’m with it,” she said. “So, I don’t think it should be a problem with everybody getting a second vaccination.”

Agape’s Wellness on Wheels pop-up Moderna vaccine site will be back at JRTC on Friday, April 23, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
