New Jacksonville Sheriff TK Waters outlines goals for JSO

Jacksonville FL — On Tuesday, new Jacksonville Sheriff TK Waters outlined his goals for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office now that he is in his first week in office. Waters says JSO’s goals moving forward will be making sure every citizen is safe and helping Jacksonville grow so it can reach its potential. Some of the strategies outlined by Waters include redeploying officers using updated population maps, which he says will focus on smaller areas, leading to improved response times and a better relationship with the community.

“We are going to do what’s necessary to make sure that every member of this community is safe”. Waters says.

Waters says JSO will start by looking at the population and have the people equally divided by zones then deploy officers to those zones. Currently, JSO says there are six patrol zones in the city and Waters says there could be more as they go through the process.

Waters also says as the community grows, so will the need for more officers and corrections staff.

“Jacksonville’s the largest city in the continental United States and the Twelfth largest in the nation by population. Our agency must continue to grow with it”. Waters says.

Waters was sworn in this past Sunday and took over for Interim Sheriff Pay Ivey.
