Normally we have to wait until the Summer or Winter holiday seasons to get big blockbuster movies in theaters and on streamers, but not all blockbusters are quality films.
There are actually a bunch of movies I’m looking forward to in the first three months of 2025 that may also move you to hit the theaters...or your living room tv...however you prefer to watch movies these days!
Without further ado, here are my most anticipated movies of the first quarter of 2025:
Mickey 17 - This one’s got “instant sci-fi classic” written all over it. We’re talking about Emo-Batman (Robert Pattinson) starring in a mind-bending thriller directed by Bong Joon Ho about people who’s only job is to be cloned and die for human experimentation. I realize it doesn’t sound that way, but this is a comedic action movie, and worth a trailer watch. Mickey is due out on March 7th, 2025.
Wolf Man - This reboot of the classic monster movie is being written and directed by Leigh Whannell. That’s the dude who wrote Saw, so you know he will deliver a new, and terrifying take on this story. Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner are set to star. The early word on this movie is great, with a lot of people expecting this to be the pace-car for all horror movies this year. This movie is already in theaters, and patiently waiting to scare you half to death.
The Alto Knights - Robert De Niro’s back in mobster mode, this time playing two rival crime bosses in the 1950s. This flick has a monster cast, and early buzz indicates that this is going to be one to watch. Basically, if you’re a fan of “Goodfellas” and general good cinema, mark your calendars, because this one’s got Oscar potential written all over it. Alto Knights is scheduled for a March 21st release date.
Companion - This thriller promises to delve into the dark side of artificial intelligence. Not much is known about the plot, but with the team behind “Barbarian” producing, and Jack Quaid starring, you know it’s going to be twisted and unsettling. “Companion” is in theaters now and earning rave reviews from fans and critics alike.
Captain America: Brave New World - Sam Wilson’s back, and this time he’s officially Captain America, shield and all. We’re talking a new Cap, a new suit, and probably a whole new world of trouble for the hero to face. This is going to be one of the biggest movies of the year when it releases on February 14, 2025, and has big shoes to fill as Cap, and Iron Man were pretty much responsible for kick-starting the Marvel era of blockbusters. Let’s see if Anthony Mackie can get the train back on the tracks with this one!
From mind-bending sci-fi to a dose of horror, to gangster flicks and more, the next few months are shaping up nicely for us movie buffs.
